Recipe for Cut Cleaning

by Leigh Ann Otte

What are the best ingredients for cleaning a cut?

a. Disinfectant and a cotton swab
b. Hydrogen peroxide
c. Soap and water

The answer is …

C! Simple soap and water does the trick, says family doctor Eva Briggs in this week’s featured article, “Quick Guide to Cuts: Cleaning, Stitches, Tetanus.” Dabbing it with disinfectant doesn’t wash it out as well, and hydrogen peroxide “isn’t necessary,” she says.

In the article, Dr. Briggs also talks about cuts that need stitches and when to get a tetanus booster.
